The WJUSD School Readiness Program is an interagency collaborative approach funded through the Yolo First Five Children and Families Commission. Although Woodland Prairie Elementary School is the participating school, this program benefits other parents as well. The purpose of the WJUSD School Readiness Program is building strong families with healthy children who are well prepared to learn. This program helps children make the transition from the security of home to school. Working in collaboration with schools, parents, and community agencies, we hope to provide all the necessary means to promote and encourage a life long love of learning.
The goal of the WJUSD School Readiness Program is to contribute to children's readiness for school success in the following areas:
- Health and physical development
- Emotional well-being and social competence
- Approaches to learning
- Communicative skills
- Cognition and general knowledge
The School Readiness Program is school linked and collaborate with multiple programs and service providers in an effort to provide a seamless system of services for families. These services include access to early care and education, family support programs, and health and social services. Additionally, the School Readiness Program offers on-site activities at Woodland Prairie Elementary School such as parenting classes, family literacy programs, summer kinder camp programs, and health assessment fairs.
